LATCU does not engage in direct Tobacco production activities nor does its societies. Instead it plays the role of providing market availability by appointing buyers, while also providing extension services to its members. The production being referred too at this juncture, are the quantities procured by contracted buyers from the members of the Union and based on which the Union gets income through imposing levy on quantities procured and sold.

In view of the above mentioned production of Tobacco from the union increased from 9,960,300 kgms during the financial year 2005/06 to 12,355,911 kgms during the year 2010/11, an increase of 124% during the period. It is being forecasted that tobacco production during the year 2011/12 will attain a level of 17,207,500 Kgms. The contracted buyers under arrangement with LATCU which contributes the mentioned production were-
